Travertine – Care Instructions

Polished Travertine – Care Instructions

Natural stone and grout should be protected to prevent or minimize damage from staining. Stained surfaces are often difficult or impossible to restore. Follow tile and stone installation procedures described by the Marble Institute of America and the Tile Contractors Association then read all instructions on product labels & MSDS completely before any products use. Allow adhesives, mortar and grout to cure according to manufacturer recommendations before cleaning or the application of protective treatments. Be sure to use the appropriate neutral cleaner designed for natural stone surfaces as improper cleaners may damage the stone, tile or protective treatments.

Protection (against water and oil staining) – Interior Surfaces:

  1. Vacuum or sweep off all debris. Surface must be clean and dry prior to application.
  2. Mask off and protect areas such as baseboards or adjacent surfaces not intended for treatment.
  3. Apply an even coat of EcoStone Solution’s Travertino & Marmo Impregnator using a paint pad, paint brush, paint roller, or low-pressure sprayer delivering a coarse wet spray. Only apply product to dry surfaces (or damp surfaces one hour or more after moisture has been removed).
  4. Allow penetration for 10-15 minutes, then wipe off all remaining product immediately.
  5. A full cure can be expected in 48-72 hours. Foot traffic can begin after 4 hours.
  6. Expected coverage is 700-800 Sq. Feet (75 Sq. Meters) per gallon.
  7. Reapply Travertino & Marmo Impregnator as annually or as needed for periodic maintenance. This will depend on sun exposure, traffic conditions, maintenance procedures, etc.

Protection (water repellency) – Exterior surfaces:

  1. Vacuum or sweep off all debris. Surface must be clean and dry prior to application.
  2. Mask off and protect areas such as baseboards or adjacent surfaces not intended for treatment.
  3. Liberally apply an even coat of EcoStone Solution’s Basic Impregnator with a brush, paint brush, paint pad or low pressure sprayer.
  4. Allow product to penetrate the surface for 10-15 minutes. Make sure product is distributed evenly over the surface.
  5. Do not apply second coat as a visible surface residue may form. If a surface residue does form, immediately re-emulsify using product and scrub surface with a white nylon pad to loosen residue, and wipe off with an absorbent towel.
  6. Surface will be ready to foot traffic in 4 hours. Full cure is achieved in 48-72 hours
  7. Expected coverage is 700-800 Sq. Feet (75 Sq. Meters) per gallon.

Color Enhancement & Protection (against water & oil staining):

  1. Vacuum or sweep off all debris. Surface must be clean and dry prior to application.
  2. Mask off and protect areas such as baseboards or adjacent surfaces not intended for treatment.
  3. Liberally apply an even coat of EcoStone Solution’s Enhance & Protect onto surface using a paint brush, paint pad, or roller.
  4. Allow to penetrate the surface for 15-30 minutes. Harder material may require more time to penetrate. Distribute evenly over entire area to insure even penetration. Wipe completely dry.
  5. Repeat process for a second coat.
  6. A third coat may be needed for porous absorbent materials or if a darker shade is desired.
  7. A full cure is expected in 72 hours. Foot traffic may begin in 4-6 hours.
  8. Expected coverage is 400-500 Sq Ft (38-47 Sq. Meters) per gallon.

Restoration cleaning (removal of embedded grease, grime, scum, etc.):

  1. Vacuum or sweeping off all debris.
  2. Mask off and protect areas such as baseboards or adjacent surfaces not intended for treatment.
  3. Make sure there are no topical coatings such as waxes, finish or surface seals.
  4. Use EcoStone Solution’s Powerful Stone & Tile Cleaner mixed with warm or hot water per labels instructions.
  5. Apply using a low pressure sprayer, mop, or sponge depending on area to be cleaned.
  6. Agitate with scrub brush, low RPM floor machine with a synthetic pad or nylon brush, or a stiff push broom.
  7. Rinse thoroughly with clean water removing all cleaning solution. A wet vacuum or wand extracting tool may be used. Repeat if necessary.

Routine maintenance (cleaning and protection of counters, table tops and vanities):

  1. Sweep, vacuum or dust surfaces prior to cleaning.
  2. Apply EcoStone Solution’s Kleen Stone Plus, with a trigger sprayer, moistened wiper, or soft cloth, then buff dry with an absorbent cloth.
  3. To remove stubborn soils or encrustations, allow solution to remain on surface for 5 minutes, then agitate and buff dry.

Routine maintenance (cleaning of floors and large surface areas):

  1. Sweep, vacuum or dust surfaces prior to cleaning.
  2. Mix EcoStone Solution’s Kleen Stone with warm or hot water according to the label directions.
  3. Apply with a trigger sprayer, moistened wiper, soft cloth, or mop then buff dry with an absorbent cloth if necessary.

Routine maintenance (light cleaning and polishing of counters, table tops and vanities):

  1. Apply EcoStone Solution’s Rock Star lightly to a clean dry surface with a soft clean cloth or apply directly from can.
  2. Buff immediately to a high gloss with a soft, dry cloth.
